Tulare County
Visalia is the Tulare County seat and the largest city between Fresno and Bakersfield, about forty-five minutes south of our clinic. Highway 99 and Highway 198 meet just west of town, and the drive to Northeast Fresno is a straight run up the 99. If your DEXA scan came back with osteoporosis or osteopenia, or you broke a bone from a simple fall, Spring Endocrinology is the bone health specialist for Visalia. Osteoporosis is silent until a fracture, and the evaluation is about preventing that fracture.

Visalia has Kaweah Health and a full range of primary care, and it does have endocrinology of its own, but a new patient appointment there can take months, so many Visalia patients find the drive up Highway 99 to Fresno quicker than the wait at home. We explain how long to stay on each medication, when a treatment break makes sense and how to think about the rare side effects Visalia patients have read about, so the decision is informed rather than fearful.
About Osteoporosis Treatment
Men get osteoporosis too, and are tested less often. About one in four men over 50 will break a bone because of it, and low testosterone and steroid use raise the risk.
Infusion and injection treatments for osteoporosis can be arranged in Fresno and coordinated with your schedule.
Our patients from Visalia come from Downtown Visalia, Northwest Visalia, Goshen, Exeter and beyond. Visalia is about 45 to 50 minutes from the clinic, north on Highway 99 to CA-41 or Clovis Avenue.

Both mean lower than normal bone density on a DEXA scan; osteopenia is milder. Treatment depends on your overall fracture risk, not the label alone, which is why we calculate that risk for every patient.
Not everyone does. If your fracture risk is low, calcium, vitamin D, exercise and fall prevention may be enough. If it is high, medication substantially lowers the chance of a hip or spine fracture.
The jaw and femur side effects are real but very rare, and for people at high fracture risk the benefit far outweighs them. We screen for risk factors, coordinate with your dentist when needed and plan treatment breaks.
